Why Should a Date Like 11/11/11 Be Remembered?

According to History Channel documentary on Vietnam, over 2.5 million people served in that war. Surely all of us can thank at least ONE of them this Friday. 11/11/11 should mean more than just another random date, it should be a Veteran's Day we remember, a day we appreciate our freedom and a day to thank our brave Veterans from every war.

God Bless them, every one.

Thank you Bobby, Thank you CoffeyPot, Thank you Greybeard, Thank you Chris. Thank you Tom.  Thank you to all our fine, brave Veterans.  And thank you to anyone I might have missed.

Stop it...at least in my case. Nothing special here. I just served and got out. But I did serve with some true heroes. Men who wore Purple Hearts, Bronze and Silver Stars and other Navy commendation medals from WWII and Korea. Many who had ships shot out from under them. So, no, I just served.

That's what they all say. Read this one:

I think the word "served" is the best description. No matter the duty, the indiduals that serve became servants of a machine that sometimes places the sanctity of life as secondary to the final outcome. That's a sacrifice that deserves the honor of those that are safe, or rewarded, due to the effort.

I joined the Air Force to avoid Nam, only to make a number of friends who had served there.

All who raise their hand and swear "To support and defend" know they may be called to do some dangerous things, but do it anyway.
And I am thankful there are still a select few willing to sign that blank check.

God Bless the USA.
