Not Just Another Pretty Face

I just happened upon this when I was researching what I thought was just a silly update I posted on Facebook about Mike Rowe making all the Captains from Deadliest Catch cry during every After The Catch episode.

Just when I gave up thinking anyone on TV had a lick of sense.

And here.

I always thought Mike Rowe was one of the sexiest men on TV, but somehow he just got even sexier.  Women love a man that can fix things, but we love men who are smart even more.

And he's one of those guys that look sooooo much better in his dirty job than he does a suit.

Such an excellent message. I was telling my grandson, who will never be a physicist or a lawyer or something like that, that doing the jobs no one else wants to do can make him rich. College is not for everyone, but a good trade school will get him work, whereas an advanced education will only allow him to ask if they want fries with that the proper pronunciation.

A lot of those "shovel ready" jobs pay more, particularly starting out, than many entry-level white-collar jobs. And skilled welders are especially well paid, being since their skills are so scarce right now.

I'm living what he describes. I'll either check out of the work force in the next fifteen years, or find a way to capitalize on the lack of people with the self-discipline to learn how to work.

Believe me, if it's the latter, I won't be cheap. I'll take advantage and demand the highest amount of money I can get away with. I'll be ruthless and petty in my assessment of the piss-poor excuses now accepted as adults by our society. I'll berate, humiliate and do everthing I can to cause misery for those that are the least willing to accept that nothing worth having demands an effort beyond pulling on a joy-stick and pushing a button.

In the end, society will step up and accept my opinion we're a nation of wimps or do everything they can to steal more from what took years to acquire. Either way will indicate a solution. We'll either excel once again or learn to bow to our foreign masters.

I'm busy doing pencil portraits on my blog and the next person I was going to draw is Mike. Not only is he a 'jack of all trades', he's not afraid of hard work, and I'm lucky my husband only half believes me when I tell him that Mike turns me on.

But WHAT A VOICE!!! His VOICE!!! God I hope he's not gay. If he is, I give up.

And the most interesting part is that all my guy commenters referred to the subject and all the girls talked about MIKE, MIKE, MIKE!!!!! Coffey, Dave and Jess, if you want to "re-energize" your girls, I' d suggest an evening watching Mr. Rowe get dirty.

But on a more serious note, Rowe is right on the money as to how we, as a society downgrade anyone that works with their hands and do not get a "higher" education. "Higher" does not mean better. Especially when it only leaves these kids with some stupid idea that they should not have to start out on the bottom. What has that bought us? The idiots that participated in OWS. They believed they should be paid the same as a CEO simply because they listened to some idiot professor for a couple of years.

Oh yeah Dana, I remember posting a Facebook comment a couple months ago about Mike's voice.

I have to say I THINK HE IS SO GOOD LOOKING! And has such a great voice....
but, who knew he's this bright, this American, this FABULOUS?
It worries me a BIT that our senate invites actors to give information, but...........with him there, I'm okay with that :-)

I WISH MORE PEOPLE WERE HEARING HIM AND MAY SNATCH THE TOP VIDEO...THANKS! :-) Excellent find, Rita.

Great find Rita. Who knew Mike was this charming? I love his message. My hairdresser grew up with a dad who was a contractor and always told her if you have a trade you can always make a buck.
This is worthy of sharing with all my e-mail friends.

Thanks Born. Z's always a great read, I'm just honored that she linked here.

Oh Lisa, you didn't realize Mike was charming? I knew he was charming, I just didn't know he was smart.

Thought I'd check in and let you know that you've struck a chord with me. I deal everday with kids who have had it beaten into their heads that college ensures their success. I tell them constantly that I think the educational aristocracy has sold them a bill of goods.

Skilled jobs are going unfilled and they should feel free to pursue them if they're so inclined. I know most of those jobs make more money than me. That should be incentive enough. Too bad our society is addicted to quick fixes, I think. Nice find.

Thx LO. I remember growing up when my mechanic father made more than his brother who was a high school teacher. I'm sure that doesn't happen today.

And the thing is that even IF your kid decides to go to college and gets a white collar job, what is wrong with them knowing how to fix things?

When dad would fix a car or build an addition on our house or roof the place, my brothers were always expected to be helping him. They learned how to FIX things.

I never have to worry about things breaking at home because Bob can fix ANYTHING. The only things he doesn't fix nowdays is because he CHOOSES not too. There are now times when he simply believes his spare time is worth more than paying someone to fix something that will take hours.

Sadly, we have not only created a generation of kids who think they are too good to fix things, we've created them to not be ABLE to fix things.

My dad showed me how to replace my roof and I know from spending days on end up on the hot roof that no matter what roofers make, it's not enough money.

I've had the quivering hots for Mike Rowe the exact second I laid eyes on him and drool slid down my chin, my lap, and oozed out onto the floor.

People today have a sense of entitlement with no work ethic. Hey, handouts do that to people.
