I like Herman a lot, but I'm afraid he doesn't have enough national exposure to make it. He needs to be on the public stage a while longer and may be ready for 2016. VP is the best he can do this time.

I've been saying the same thing about the debates, they concentrate on only the front runners and I want to hear more from Cain. I'm hoping this straw poll gives him that spotlight. Hope you're wrong about the VP thing. At this point I think Cain fits my kind of candidate more than the others.

Of course he's not as slick as the other candidates, they're all politicians. And that's another reason why I like Cain over the others.

yeah but we are all such racist we can't vote for him. You know Hollywood and the liberal news media can't be wrong about us. He will have to change his policy on being black and then we can all support him.

Rita said...

Oh, you should see all the comments over at huffington post. You want to talk about racist comments. They are using practically all of them when describing Cain.

Who heard of Carter, or Clinton?
Dear God let it be Cain.
I haven't given him much of a chance til now since the media "de-selected" him in all the debates.
Santorum can be his running mate.
Campaign slogan: "Vote for the other brother."

Bless his heart, I like Herman Cain. But his lack of any government or political experience will be a major handicap in a Presidential race.

And you know the term "racism" has lost any sensible meaning when it's used to tear down another black man for not accepting the status quo of liberal America.

Hey DD-
Since when dia lack of government or political experience make a difference in an election? All ya have to do is tell folks you'll bring Hope and Change and the deal is done, right?

Bonus:
Cain iss also good reading a teleprompter!

"Vote for the 'other brother'"?
LOVE IT Ed!

He is getting a lot more air time these last few days, which is exactly what I've been wanting. Honestly I think his genuine southern accent will be more of a hinderance than his color. I love his honest talk, but I'll hazard a guess his accent quickly becomes a point of ridicule.

I'm with you 100%, Rita. Every time I've heard this man speak I've been impressed. I think we are early enough in the political game that he stands a pretty good chance. It's a darn shame when we're told we shouldn't support a candidate because he's not big enough, or slick enough - if what he's saying is right for this country, then he deserves our support and our efforts to get him there.

Of course, I think it would be very satisfying to tell the dems / media / current administration, "Look at me, who you called a Tea Party Racist - I'm supporting a BLACK MAN! Put that in your pipe and smoke it!"

Rita said...

Yep. I'd much rather have someone with no political background than anyone who has rolled over and become part of the corrupt way of thinking that nearly all politicians have now days.

Greybeard said...

No political background... a big plus.
He's run a business and met a payroll... Wow! Sign me up.

Herman is a good man, but he will never win this thing. And personally I don't feel that he is qualified for it.

I think there should be a cage match with the candidates. After there's a winner, another cage match for the President and the winner from the nominees.

Cain has a good chance of winning the cage match. He always seems like a scrapper, which is what we need to slap around the bureaucrats.

Rita -

I like him... but there's just something I can't put my finger on that makes me hesitant to back him.

Wish I could figure out what it was so I could maybe deal with it.

Rita-

As I've written on my blog, so you know this, I am torn about Cain.

I think his values are entirely correct, that his color and accent are irrelevant.

On one hand, like some of your other commenters, I like that he has no prior government experience.

Then I think about Wonderboy's lack of experience.

Cain periodically makes statements which convey his lack of acknowledgement that he won't get everything he wants just by saying, 'I'll do this,' or 'I'll change that.'

Also, business people are used to thinking they can run government like a business.

In some ways, especially fiscally, it's a healthy attitude. But some of these guys don't know when to stop the business command-and-control approach.

So I'm still on the fence re: Cain.

My continuing preference is for whomever does best among independents, because they will decide the 2012 election.

True, but that's why I think Cain has a better shot. Some candidates will draw such a vast amount of negativity, they cannot win. I believe the most successful people are those that surround themselves with trustworthy people who have strengths and experience that the leaders may not have. I don't have to have experience with servers or be a DBA administrator to successfully get an IT project off the ground, I just have to know the basics and manage to motivate them to do what they do naturally.

I've become a cynic regarding Washington. Too many people being bought for their votes on a bad bill.

Ed Bonderenka said...

I don't want to hear about him being ready for 2016. That implies we lose 2012, right?
Why wouldn't an incumbent republican run again?

Rita said...

Ed: I've not heard anyone talking about Cain being ready in 2016, is that the latest buzzword?

IF Obama IS reelected, look for Mike Pence to run. By then he will have been elected as Indiana's governor replacing Mitch Daniels (we have an 8 year term limit, so Daniels cannot run again for governor). Pence will be a shoe-in for governor and I'm sure he was already toying with a presidential run this time but opted for getting that governor experience so many claim is necessary for a president. Pence is one of the very few politicians that I believe can be trusted.

Ahhh, I missed that. Or had a senior moment. I think there is SOME validity to the no public office argument, but I, like a lot of Americans are sick and more than a little suspicious of public office holders. Indianapolis elected a mayor four years ago that has NO political experience and little money to run on. Ballard was a former marine and a businessman and Indy was fed up with politicians. There was NO WAY he could win against an incumbent mayor with money. But he did.

I think America is at the same stage that Indy was four years ago. We're just sick of career politicians and we'd rather have someone with no governmental experience but armed with good common sense.

The "win" of a conservative group in Florida had gotten Cain some recognition and today they announced that he was in a close third place in the GOP poll. People are starting to wake up and not pay attention to just those touted in the news media.

The irritating thing is that Indiana rarely gets any say in who will actually run because our primaries are in May and by then it's all but assured be all the other states and the media who will be running.

Personally I think the primary process is ridiculous. The first few states actually get to decide who will run and unless something very unusual happens, Indiana gets no say in who's running.

Except for the 2008 Democrat primaries where Hillary and Obama were virtually neck and neck. They both spent a great deal of time here trying to convince Hoosiers which ones to vote for. In Indiana, you have to declare in the primaries which party you are and you are only given that choice.

I actually considered declaring D so I could vote for Hillary. NOT because I wanted her to be president, but because after hearing Obama's speech about guns and relgion I found that Hillary had been replaced in my mind for the LEAST person I would want in the White House.

Ed Bonderenka said...

Geez, Rita. You should copy that comment and paste it as a post.

Greybeard said...

[] Soiled Baby's Diaper
[] Barack H. Obama

Which of the above candidates would you vote for? (Cain CANNOT be worse than the status quo!)

Rita said...

Only one person I would NOT vote for. Ron Paul. I only had to hear him say he thought Iran should be allowed to have nukes to believe he is actually more dangerous than Obama.

Ahhh, another brilliant comment from Anon. What in the world do these idiots get from this type of thing? Maybe it's from that little Ruskie shoe/chair nazi that objects to my objection to shopping.
