I Left My Heart....

And just lost what I used to consider some of the best music ever.  Can Not, Will Not EVER listen to any Tony Bennett song again.

Imagine my surprise when I tuned into the VIEW today. I heard KD Lang would be on. I suffered through the full 50 minutes of women chatting aimlessly, giving women everywhere a mentality representation of 6. Then KD Lang came on....with Tony Bennet.

An entire hour of my life I will never get back.

Idiots should not be allowed to HAVE an opinion.

I NEVER watch The View, but decided to knowing they would have the stalker "author" and Bennett. I was shocked to see that none of even the most idiotic women on there not agree with the Palin stalker. You KNOW you have to some kind of low-life that even Bahar doesn't come to your defense.

I waited to see what would happen with Bennett. I heard him read his prepared remarks and when he got up to sing, I changed the channel. I figured they would not discuss the incident further and I will never listen to his music again.

I actually went to a concert of Bennett and kd lang. The music was amazing, but I will never hear his name again without realizing the man is nothing short of a traitor. I think he just wrote the last paragraph of his obituary in that Stern interview.

It not only taints the performance, it taints the memories.

Everyone in my family loved I Left My Heart because my parents were stationed out in San Francisco and my oldest brother and my sister were both born there. That song was special and now it is ruined forever. There is no possible way I could ever hear it again without thinking that this man called America terrorists.

I have a different take on all this, as is explained in my "List" post.
I will continue to enjoy the art, but I won't pay for it. Not. one. sheckel. In fact, if I get the chance to steal it I will do that without any shame whatsoever.
(I still LOVE "Earl had to die!" in spite of the political stupidity displayed by the Dixie Twits.)
I NEVER watch "The View". I started watching the Bizarro Jerry version, "The Five", on Fox News, but decided Bob Beckel was too much like a WWF villain there. I'm like Dana, I don't want to be wasting precious moments I could be using to floss my teeth or take out the garbage.

Unfortunately, Bennett's words feel "personal". Knowing how my family loved the music (see above) and knowing that my uncles fought in WWII and Bob fought in Vietnam, saying that America was bombing the middle east and that we are the terrorist is just not something I can overlook. I am sickened by his comments and that alone will have me changing the radio station or TV everytime that celebretard is on.

As to the Dixie Scum, not only was I offended by their statements, but then they go on to sneer at the people that allowed them to become rich idiots. Sure they were talented, as was Bennett. But listening to them makes me angry and there is no point in wasting precious energy.

Since I was home today, I decided to see what exactly Bennett would say, so I did watch the show, even though it makes my eyes bleed. I would normally never watch any of them. It was quite entertaining to see not one of them defend Joe Stalker's book.

He tried to apologize here: http://www.mercurynews.com/entertainment/ci_18947938, but he is still a piece of shit in my book.

I read his supposed "apology" on his facebook page and then heard him read it again today. In my opinion no apology has the words, "if I...." And no one can walk back the words that call American terrorists, especially when they are referring to 9/11. He claims he became a pacifist after his service in WWII. So apparently he found the war he fought in offensive. If America hadn't come into the war (very late from what I've been able to research), what would have happened? We'd either all be in concentration camps or be speaking German.

As I commented previously, he just doesn't like what the last paragraph of his obituary will now read.

Oh, another of my toes just got stepped on...I had forgotten Bennett's proclamation he'd become a pacifist during his short stint in WWII. He certainly continued his money making style due to the other WWII patriots who secured his peaceful lifestyle.

I imagine any stint he "served" was safely spent cleaning the latrines or peeling potatoes.

He certainly paid back all the men who gave their lives for him - since he used his rights by passing all the blame onto the country that supported his freedom to do so.

Oh, Tony... Why couldn't you just sing instead of talking?

I saw Tony Bennett perform at the Morris Performing Art Center in downtown South Bend on my 40th birthday, 13 years ago. It was wonderful. At one point, he had the sound guy turn off the microphone and he sang, "Fly me to the moon," a cappella, with no mike. It filled the room. He has a glorious voice and a great set of pipes. Sadly, there is some tarnish on those pipes now.

Like Greybeard, I'll still enjoy the music when I hear it, but it will always be a little bittersweet now. Damn! How many more musicians do I have to give up because they can't keep their mouths shut? Barbra Streisand was first - I LOVED her! But I haven't listened to her music for 20 years. And the Dixie Chicks! Great music, but sheesh. Get a clue, girls - we don't care what you think until you say something stupid. Then we'll SHOW you how much we care by hitting you where it hurts - in your wallets!

I really wish entertainers would realize that WE DON'T WANT TO KNOW WHAT THEY THINK ABOUT POLITICS - we just want to see them act or hear them sing. That's what we're paying them to do. Believe whatever you want, just be smart about it and don't use your stage as a political rally.

We went to see him at Starlight Theatre (yeah, outside) on a beautiful summer night several years ago. We both regretted not thinking about getting tickets for our parents. I saw him again when a friend of mine had tickets to a concert he had with kd lang. Great music that used to soothe my soul, sadly from now on it will only boil my blood.

Bennett, like the Idiot Chicks have every right to spout their free speech, but so many people do not realize that free speech means that I get to voice my opinion too. And I can choose to never put another dime in their pockets.

The Chicks made me mad, but Bennett just broke my heart.

I had the same thought, Rita...."there's Tony Bennett, he's just done it for me forever.....he can LEAVE his heart in S.F. as far as I'm concerned!"

About broke MY heart, but nonetheless..

Nice to hear the VIEW ladies are dissing Joe McGinnis, too. Even Piers Morgan was tough on him. WHat a slimebag, huh? "I just moved next door because a woman let me!" Ya, RIGHT.

Rita said...

Frankly I don't want Bennett's heart ruining beautiful San Francisco (yeah I know it's been hijacked by the craziest of liberals, but it is hands down the most beautiful city I've ever seen). I think the world would be better served let the traitor float down right on top of Bin Laden's. I used to read some of McGinnis' old books, but watching him being interviewed after his stupid PDS book came out this week was like watching a bad farce. No one can be that idiotic, he has to be some type of comedic joke, right?

Z said...

McGinnis is pathetically smug and sarcastic; he really draws some ridiculous conclusions, too.
Man, when Piers Morgan thinks that, you KNOW McGinnis is a jerk...especially when Morgan's practically standing up for SARAH PALIN!

Rita..I just saw your comment at my food blog. I THINK the restaurant name is ANDRE'S, as a matter of fact I'm pretty sure, and it IS in Rome. Near the Via Venetto, I THINK.
The deal is that white truffles are only in season, I THINK, in late October, early November.. When are you going? it's SO worth it, I swear I remember saying to my husband when I had the first bite in my mouth "one shouldn't swallow this, one should BRONZE IT, it's so delicious!" :-)

Later, in German classes (we were living in Munich and went to Rome on business many times), Italian classmates would go home to visit and then come back to Munich and bring me little bits of white truffle! It was costly, but WORTH IT!!

What a lucky travel girl you are G. I had never really ever considered going to Italy, but one thing led to another and my sister, nephew and I ended up going there for my (near) 50th birthday. We flew to Venice, trained to Cinque Terre, then to Volterra and on to Rome, where we stayed at a bed and breakfast at the top of the Spanish Steps. I kept expecting to disappointed at some point, but I LOVED Italy. Could never live there, but I could go every year if time and money were no option. I'll have to make a note of Andre's in case I can get back soon. We went in late April. Not too cold and no crowds. Is it possible to be homesick for someplace that was never actually home?

Rita-

I agree with you- and others- regarding Bennett's traitors remarks on Stern. I don't think it's his age. He made an irrevocable mistake with that vague reference to 'we bombed them first and they asked us to stop.'

On what planet is he living?

Same with the Dixie Chicks. Never bought another piece of their music after their traitorous remarks, either.
