God Weeps

When His message is perverted by these vile, evil people that try to claim they are Christians.

I first saw them once downtown.  I'm not sure what they were picketing, but I remember seeing their horrible signs about Matthew Shepard being in hell after he was viciously murdered because he was gay.

I saw them again in a southern Indiana town, again, not sure what brought them out there, but their vile signs make me want to throw something out of my car at them.

The sad part is that many people think these horrible people are actually Christian.

My Bible teaches me that I am not to judge.  I don't have to agree with people's lifestyle or their beliefs to continue to love them.  I can still believe in sin, but I wasn't nailed on the cross for someone else's sin, so who am I to judge that someone else's sin is worse than my own?

But I have to believe there is a very special place in hell for the idiots that protest at soldiers' funerals with the hateful signs and protests.

Today, both sides were presented to the Supreme Court.  I fully support the soldier's father who brought the lawsuit but.......

Free speech applies to all, right?

That soldier fought for his country and that includes defending everyone's right to free speech, no matter how vile.

My husband fought for his country and that includes defending everyone's right to free speech, no matter how vile.

I don't believe either of them believed that the freedom of speech meant only speech that didn't offend me tremendously.

Let me make it clear, I DO NOT SUPPORT the idiots at this so called "church", but if we limit their speech because it offends me, when is my speech going to be limited because it offends someone?

They say the Supreme Court's decision will probably come down sometime early next year.  I will be waiting their outcome, but I do not know how this soldier's poor father can or should win this one.

I DO believe that the Westboro idiots will find they will be the ones burning in hell long before Matthew Shepard or any of our brave soldiers.

well if the courts prevent protesters from demonstrating too close to the slaughter houses aka abortion clinics, then these freaks should not be allowed to demonstrate near the burial ground of our nations brave soldiers. This cult has to be one of the most wackiest groups I have ever heard of.

You make a good point Cnc. Free speech cannot be determine by anyone's individual set of criteria. I've never understood the term "hate speech" and trying to make that a crime. I don't support anyone's nasty hate speech against an entire group of people, but we HAVE to defend everyone's speech.

That include the whackos of Westboro and unfortunately it seems to exclude those who oppose abortion.

God, this country needs alot of prayers nowdays.

And I still maintain that "free" speech does not come without consequences. So the whiney Dixie Chicks complaining about the backlash they received (e.g. people no longer buying their records) is NOT suppressing their free speech.

The idiots are allowed to say anything they want and I am allowed to have a negative reaction to it. THAT is my right also.

With freedom comes responsibility. I have a right to speak freely, but I also have a responsibility to not use that freedom in a way that makes me look like an idiot. Or something like that. They bring a lot of attention to their "cause", but it's all negative attention that makes them look stupid and does nothing but undermine whatever point they were trying to make. Best response is to ignore them, because doing so denies them the attention-getting response they seek.

Like you, I'm appalled by what they say, but I will defend their right to say it. I don't know the details of the Supreme Court case - if these people were protesting on private property in a private cemetery, then they were trespassing - the owner of the property has the right to ask them to leave, and to have them forcibly removed if they refuse. That's not a Constitutional issue, it's simple trespassing law. On the other hand, if they were protesting on public property (e.g., on the street outside the cemetery), then they have the right to be there. And the rest of us have the right to ignore them.

It sickens me that they have decided their latest tactic was to protest at our fallen soldiers funerals.

From what little I heard about the case as presented to the Supremes, it sounded like they would like to find a reason to side with the father, but it sounded like it might be a struggle to say the protests are not protected under the term "free speech".

It would be easy to ignore them, unless you are the parent or the spouse of someone who gave their life for their nation and these monsters show up with their hate in the middle of your grief.

I have no doubt these are people that Satan uses to turn others away from Christianity.

EVIL.
