Up On The Roof

Nothing beats the sounds of these guys as they fly over my rooftop every year.

So cool.  They are mere inches wing to wing and flying at breakneck speeds.

WOW, rita! thanks for that, it is SO terrific! I wish I could see them once... isn't it amazing how close they fly to each other?

"Doo doo doo...lookin' out my front door!" (as you said at Kid's)So true!

They usually alternate between the Blue Angels and the Thunderbirds each year. We live about a minute (as the crow flies) from the air show. I love it when the flight pattern takes them right over the house. The sound follows them by a couple seconds so you get the thrilli of the jets and then the incredible sounds blows you away. Our local reporters usually get a free ride with them. Can you imagine?

I scheduled my kid's graduation party to coincide with them flying overhead. Some thought I'd paid for it.

If you add up the money you spent, you probably could have.

:( Dang! I envy you! I wish I could witness them fly someday. Ed has a great idea, but I think paying for it would be a bad idea. It would be better if he scheduled the graduation party on the day when these guys will be flying. Wouldn't that be great? On what day do you usually see them, Rita? I think it could help Ed.

Hi Willene.

Every year there's an airshow at a small regional airport a couple mikes as the crow flies from my house.

Normally they are a little higher as they circle the house, but occasionally when they practice they fly low and fast a couple inches from my roof. Well at least that's what it seems like.

We normally drive down one of the county roads and park in the backside of a farmer's field closer to the airport. That's when you could almost see the whites of their eyes.

It is breathtaking. And hard to capture on camera because they are so fast.

Wow! Do you hang around on your rooftop every year just to witness these fighter jets? They’re flying just meters above the ground! Isn’t that amazing?! Do you know who’s flying this year?

Hi Nelson.

I don't have to hang out on my roof, just sit out in my front yard and wait.

It all depends on their flight patterns for that year's shows. They've flown closer than that before when I didn't have a camera or couldn't keep up with speed with my lens. It's always a race between trying to snap the shot before they are actually in the frame due to their amazing speed.

A few years back their practice pattern had them so low over the house wing tip to wng tip that I could literally see the details of their profiles through their helmets.

The last few years either they are a bit farther away or I'm not home when they fly over. Since they are so fast it's difficult to find them in the sky because you are looking at the start of tree line and you realize they are already well past it.

Looks like 2013 will be the Blue Angels again. They are the crowd favorite.

Thanks for stopping by.
