If I remember correctly, this was a priest--a chaplain from one of the fire departments. He was there giving last rites to those that had jumped to their death, when one of the jumpers landed on him and killed him.
That was what was first reported, later it said he was killed by the debris from the towers.
And yet, he looks so peaceful, doesn't he?
I had also heard he was killed by a falling jumper. But I think we can agree it doesn't matter what mass being attracted by gravity killed this man, he knew he was in danger by tending to folks in need, yet he continued to do it.
What's the definition of hero?
