Chilly Weather

Picked up on the west side of town. Before I added the spaghetti.

And that IS always a point of contention throughout the country, right?  There was quite a discussion about it on a local news station Facebook page last week.

Pasta or not in the chili. From what I've been able to determine, that's typically an Indiana thing. My mother always had macaroni in her chili, which I liked back then, now I like spaghetti, but not a LOT of spaghetti, about the same ratio as the beans.

Yes, I realize beans are another source of controversy.

Lost of kidney beans some angel hair pasta and extra pasta on the side so you can add what you want.

I haven't lost any kidneys yet. However, angel hair is too thin for chili. It gets lost in the translation.

The only controversy I have with beans is if you leave them out. I like chunky beef and onions, too.

Funny you should mention this. I made a huge batch of chili and froze half of it BEFORE I put the spaghetti in, because it gets mushy.

Yesterday I thawed it, and we dove in, then came up for air and wondered "What is WRONG with this? It tastes great....but something is missing...."

Much later, I realized it was the spaghetti.

My grandma used to make her chili more on the sweet side than the hot side. And that's how I like it.

I didn't think you could make chili without onions Coffey.

Silly girl Dana, have you forgotten your Indiana roots? How could you not remember the spaghetti?

I wish I could figure out what this chili place puts in theirs. It's the perfect consistency. We get a half gallon without the spaghetti because I can add the spaghetti at home and get a lot more chili this way. It's not overly spicy, but I always add more chili pepper. Not a fan of red or green peppers, but I love chili pepper.

Mark makes good chili, but it's not as good as Nick's Chili. His is too thin. It is spicier and it is good, but needs to simmer up before adding the sghetti.

I like it with rice and pintos; never tried it with pasta, but think it can only make it better.

There were a few comments locally about rice, but that seems an odd combination to me Jess.

Dave, I'm trying to figure out how you would make it sweet. Do you think it was just sweeter tomatoes or did she actually put some sugar in it?
