Chiming In

Ok, for once I'm going to jump on the bandwagon.

No, I really don't care about the Brit's royal family (is royal supposed to be capitalized in this situation?) but yes, I will DVR the ceremony.

I was twenty-two years old when Lady Di married Prince Charles.  Obviously that was long before DVRs and a few years before Beta Max recorders were affordable, so I woke up early to watch.  I still remember sitting in the kitchen with my mom that early morning and seeing Lady Di coming up the aisle in that incredibly long long train.

I remember the fairy tale carriage she rode in.  I was young and believed in the fairy tale and hoped that it wasn't only skin deep.

Shortly thereafter it became obvious the marriage was just a sham.  Today, I still believe that Diana probably didn't know that she was only picked for good breeding.  I'm sure she was incredibly insufferable to be around, but throughout the years I loved seeing her with her children.  I still remember seeing William running into her arms after spending time away from her.  And my heart broke watching the two boys walk behind the horse drawn casket.

So although I don't spend more than a nickel's worth of attention to the royal family, I will still DVR the ceremony.

I guess all girls want to believe in the fairy tale no matter what they may tell you.

Update:  I thought I would be mildly interested, but actually the ceremony was the kind told in fairy tales. The bride was gorgeous and it was so sweet when she finally got up to the altar, William leaned over and you could easily read his lips.  He said, "You look so beautiful.  Beautiful"  And he was right.

I think she'll be cherished, but then again, the ENQUIRER knows what goes on behind closed doors.

Personally, no matter how dreamlike the wedding was...I'd hate to be trained like a pony for the "duties" and stuffed shirts I'd have to pretend to be interested in.

I have no doubt that whole lifestyle would be way too stuffy for me. They'd be throwing me out within an hour.

Improving the Windsor gene pool...
Both Diana and Kate are the best thing that ever happened to that "Ivory tower" bunch.
I too suspect Diana was a temperamental insufferable ******.
But she got amongst 'em.
Aids. Land mines. Work with Mother Theresa.
And public reaction to her death opened the Royal family's eyes to many things... (According to my Brit buddy, probably saved the Monarchy.)
The boys both seem to be fairly well adjusted. Harry's attempt to sneak over to Afghanistan and fight with his unit insures he'll buy none of his own drinks should I ever get a chance to buy for him, although he obviously doesn't need ME buying drinks for him. But Diana laid the foundation with those boys, and Charles and the rest have apparently done a decent job of "finishing".
I also watched enough of the proceedings to enjoy the fairy tale. And I bet this union will last.
Good for them. Good for the Brits.
